The seventh edition of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy takes place in Rome, (Italy) from 26 until 29 September 2018. Organisers expect about 350 representatives from more than 80 countries to attend the four-day event in the Eternal city of Rome. The Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy is attended by a broad spectrum of actors, ranging from academics, over political stakeholders, to activists.
The conference will mainly focus on direct democracy and citizen participation at the local level, the importance of cities as drivers of democracy on a global stage and the opportunities the digital age offers for participation. In a series of workshops and panels, the Global Forum will put the spotlight on practical aspects of direct democracy. This year’s Global Forum will see the launch of an International League of Democracy Cities and the signing of a Magna Charta of Democracy Cities.
